Where to Find an Iguana Sale
Finding the perfect iguana may start with a search online. In fact, right here at Iguana Sale you can view our classified ad section to look for your new pet.
There are also other sites such as Kingsnake.com which has an in-depth reptile ad section.
Another location that you may find iguanas for sale is in classified ads. These ads are not just in your local print newspaper anymore. They can be found on hundreds, if not thousands of websites across the internet. Although this a great option to find the rare breeds, it can also be a risk.
When your buying an animal from an individual’s classified ad YOU MUST be careful that it is not a scam. You must be certain of the animal that you’re buying. If the owner of the animal is in another state and you can’t see it first hand, make sure you get pictures and if possible try a live video chat with the owner to see the animal.
It’s best if the website or newspaper specializes in the sale of reptiles. Example: Reptile Weekly.
Reptile Shows
Here is a look at what a reptile show looks like. As you can see there are many other animals than just iguanas but it can be a great place to find one…
These shows are great for finding and purchasing a wonderful iguana. Most of the vendors at these shows have a true passion for what they do and offer a high-end type of animal. This is also a great location for finding rare (but legal) breeds.
For any route you take you need to do your homework and know what your looking for. You need to choose a clean and scar free animal to be sure that it is not carrying any disease and is not ill tempered. Finding the right iguana will prove to be rewarding in the long term as they grow to their full size.
Owning an Exotic Animal
Owning an exotic animal such as an iguana can be more work and more care then you may think. Buying an iguana at an iguana sale is a commitment to an animal that will need lots of care and at some point, a large enclosure to live in.
Basic Iguana Information
It’s so important that you educate yourself on the type of iguana you want to purchase. Below you will find some general information on iguana that will help you to get started. You can also get more information on caring for your iguana here.
These are basic tips for first time iguana owners and for those who want to learn more about their pet.
1. Herbivores iguanas.
The description of herbivores is the kind that eats only plant or plant matters. It can be said that there are not many reptiles that can survive on plant food alone, this is what makes iguanas unique. This may be the reason why people like these reptiles as pets, feeding them is not as challenging as any other animals.
Being herbivores doesn’t mean that you can just opt for any plant out there to feed your iguana. If you want to preserve its health, take into consideration giving them nutritious green and leafy vegetables. Try lettuce, never iceberg. You can give it to them regularly. If you do not have an large quantity of vegetables to supply, take into account other alternative sources of leafy plants.
2. Tropical temperature is important.
Iguanas are used to having tropical climates all year round. That is why you won’t find an iguana habitat in places where there are shifts of hot and cold weather.
This is one thing that you should take into consideration once you have decided to have a pet iguana. You are expected to monitor the temperature around your house or in a shelter that you have provided for them.
Iguanas need regular heat to sustain their body temperature. A lot of iguana owners have noticed that there is an increase in the amount of electricity they use once they have an iguana in their home.
So if you are located in locations where there is a winter season, make sure that your heater works and that it works well for your animal. If you don’t have a stable source of heat, or feel you can’t keep the animal warm all year round, it may be a good idea to stay away from iguana ownership.
3. A Tamed iguana.
Your pet iguana won’t get tamed on its own. As the owner, it is your responsibility to make sure that you tame your iguana effectively so that they will be in a position to socialize well with you and with anybody else.
A tamed iguana will be able to journey around your house without moving or eating anything that arouses its interest. You can also take them outdoors or to activities outside of your home. You also have the ability to caress, hold and embrace your iguana once you’re certain that it will not harm you when you do so.
4. Iguanas grow BIG.
You might be misled into thinking that your iguana will remain small and tiny all throughout its life cycle. This is a false impression. These animals grow to be large and the cage for your iguana will need to be very big. Check out pictures of iguana to really get an idea of the size of this animal as well as the size of the enclosure you will eventually need for it.
All types of iguanas grow to their full size if they are taken care of effectively . In 3 to 4 years time, expect your iguana to be five to six feet long.

Sanora, Some Iguana are much more difficult to tame than others. The reasons for this can be where they came from, what their actual breed of iguana is and other factors. I would suggest patience and stay aware of what may make the animal happy. Whatever those things may be try to exploit them. Work everyday with the animal and move in slow motion with all your actions until things start to improve. Also when taking the animal from the enclosure it’s important to make sure you come at it from the front and not the top or it will feel as if its getting attacked and will be on the defensive right away.
